Chrysler Key Types Explained (Australia) — Bladed vs Slot vs Proximity (300 / 300C, PT Cruiser, Grand Voyager, Sebring, Crossfire)

Posted on:

If you’ve got a Chrysler and need a spare key, replacement key, or you’ve lost everything (all keys lost), the fastest way to get it sorted is identifying what key system you have.

This page explains the most common Chrysler key types you’ll see in Australia:

  • Bladed keys (traditional metal key + transponder, sometimes with remote)
  • Slot keys (insert into a slot / WIN module style)
  • Proximity keys (push-to-start / keyless entry)

✅ Once you know which type you have, it’s easier to confirm compatibility and avoid buying the wrong key online.

Important Note (No DIY Programming)

⚠️ For most Chrysler models listed here, there isn’t a reliable DIY/manual programming procedure.
Keys and remotes are typically programmed using diagnostic equipment, plus the correct key type for the vehicle.

If you’re on the Gold Coast or Tweed Coast, we can supply and program the correct key on-site (model dependent).

Key Type 1 — Bladed Key (Traditional)

How to tell if you have a bladed key

You likely have bladed if:

  • There’s a traditional metal key you insert into an ignition barrel
  • The key may have buttons on the head (or a separate remote)
  • The vehicle uses an immobiliser transponder chip inside the key

What we can do (bladed systems)

  • Cut & program a spare key
  • Replace a lost key
  • All keys lost solutions (model dependent)
  • Immobiliser/key programming where required

Key Type 2 — Slot Key (Insert/Slot System)

How to tell if you have a slot key

You likely have slot if:

  • The key fob inserts into a dash slot
  • Starting is done via slot insert (sometimes paired with a START button depending on variant)

What we can do (slot systems)

  • Supply & program the correct slot key
  • Add a spare key if supported
  • All keys lost solutions (model dependent)
  • Immobiliser/key programming where required

Key Type 3 — Proximity Key (Push-to-Start)

How to tell if you have a proximity key

You likely have proximity if:

  • There’s a START/STOP button
  • The fob can stay in your pocket and still start the vehicle (varies by trim)
  • Doors may unlock by touch/approach (varies by trim)

What we can do (proximity systems)

  • Program a spare proximity key
  • Replace a lost proximity key
  • All keys lost solutions (model dependent)
  • Immobiliser/key programming where required

Fast Quote Checklist (Send This Info)

To confirm the correct key system and quote quickly, send:

  1. Model: 300/300C, Crossfire, Grand Voyager, PT Cruiser, Sebring, Voyager
  2. Year
  3. Start type: ignition barrel / slot / push-to-start button
  4. Do you have any working keys? (yes/no)
  5. All keys lost? (yes/no)
  6. Your suburb/location

If you’re unsure, a clear photo of:

  • the key/fob (front + back), and
  • the dash start setup (barrel vs slot vs push button)
makes it easy to identify the correct system.

Avoid This Common Mistake

Buying keys online based only on the model name can go wrong because:

  • The same model can have multiple key systems across trims/years
  • Wrong frequency / wrong platform = wasted money
  • Some keys are not reusable once previously registered (depends on key type)
