Toyota LandCruiser Remote Key Programming Guide (1998–2023+)

🔑 Manual & Diagnostic Remote Programming Procedures by Model

This guide covers Toyota LandCruiser remote programming across common Australian models, including 100 Series, 105 Series, 200 Series, and 70 Series (VDJ7#).

⚠️ Important:
These procedures program remote locking functions only (lock/unlock).
They do NOT program immobiliser transponder chips. If the vehicle won’t start with a new key, you’ll need diagnostic key programming.

LandCruiser HDJ100 / FZJ105R (100/105 Series)

1998–2002 🔐 Remote Programming (Ignition Cycling Method)

⚠️ Important:
When entering programming mode, ALL remotes (max 3) must be programmed at the same time.
Any remotes not programmed during this session will be deleted.

✅ You must have at least one working remote.

  1. Remove the key from the ignition and ensure a door is open.
  2. Lock the doors using the working remote.
  3. Unlock the doors using the working remote.
  4. Within 20 seconds of unlocking, insert the key and turn from OFF → ON at least 20 times, ending in OFF. ⏱️ Taking longer than 20 seconds will stop entry into programming mode.
  5. The indicators will flash 20 times to confirm successful entry.
  6. After the flashes, press the button once on each remote to be programmed.
  7. Turn the ignition to ON to save transmitter info and exit programming mode.

LandCruiser HDJ100 / UZJ100 (100 Series) & HZJ105 GXL (105 Series)

2002–2007 🔐 Remote Programming (Door / Ignition Method)

This procedure is used to program remote functions.

  1. Make sure the driver’s door is open and unlocked and the key is out of the ignition.
  2. Insert and remove the key TWICE within 5 seconds.
  3. Close and open the driver’s door TWICE within 40 seconds.
  4. Insert the key into the ignition and remove it ONCE.
  5. Close and open the driver’s door TWICE within 40 seconds.
  6. Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn it on).
  7. Close the door.
  8. Turn the ignition switch from OFF → ON:
    • 1 time = ➕ ADD (add a remote without erasing existing)
    • 2 times = 🔄 REWRITE (erase all and add new remotes)
    • 3 times = 🔍 CONFIRMATION (check how many remotes are programmed)
  9. Remove the key.

🔒 Door locks will cycle LOCK → UNLOCK to confirm the selected mode.

Programming the Remote (ADD or REWRITE)

Within 20 seconds of confirmation:

A. Press LOCK + UNLOCK together for 1–1.5 seconds, then release.
B. Within 3 seconds, press LOCK for more than 1 second, then release.
C. ✅ Success: locks cycle once
❌ Failure: locks cycle twice (repeat the procedure)
D. Repeat for additional remotes.

  1. Open the driver’s door to complete the procedure.

LandCruiser VDJ200 / UZJ200 (200 Series)

2008–2015 🔐 Remote Programming (Door / Ignition Method)

Follow the exact same procedure as the 2002–2007 100/105 Series method above (Door / Ignition Method), including:

  • ADD / REWRITE / CONFIRMATION modes
  • LOCK + UNLOCK → then LOCK steps

LandCruiser VDJ200 / UZJ200 (200 Series)

2015–2021 🔐 Remote Programming (Manual) + ⚠️ Diagnostic Note

⚠️ Note:
Some later year ranges (commonly around 2019–2021) may require diagnostic remote programming rather than the manual method.

✅ If the vehicle enters programming mode and confirms with lock cycles, use the manual method below.
🚫 If it refuses to enter programming mode, it may require diagnostics.

Use the Door / Ignition Method procedure listed above (same as 2002–2007).

LandCruiser VDJ7# (70 Series)

2007–2009 ⚡ Remote Programming (Quick Ignition Method)

✅ Before starting:

  • Ensure Park/Headlights are OFF and NOT on AUTO.
  1. Insert the key into the ignition.
  2. Switch ignition from OFF → ON 3 times, leaving it in the ON position.
  3. The security LED will turn ON continuously for 5 seconds.
  4. While the security indicator is ON, press the button on the remote transmitter to be programmed.
  5. The hazard warning lights will FLASH to confirm programming was successful.
  6. Repeat Step 4–5 while the security light is ON for any additional remotes.

LandCruiser VDJ7# (70 Series)

2009–2016 🔐 Remote Programming (Door / Ignition + Door Lock Switch)

  1. Key removed from ignition, driver’s door open, all other doors closed.
  2. Insert key into ignition, then turn ON and OFF.
  3. Close and open the driver’s door twice.
  4. Turn key ON then OFF.
  5. Close and open the driver’s door twice.
  6. Close the driver’s door, then lock the vehicle using the door lock control switch on the door panel.
  7. Within 40 seconds, turn the key from ON to OFF:
    • Once = ➕ ADD (retain original codes)
    • Twice = 🔄 REWRITE (rewrite original remote codes)
  8. Unlock the vehicle using the door lock control switch.
  9. The indicators will flash or doors will lock/unlock to confirm entry into registration mode.
  10. Press and hold LOCK + UNLOCK together for more than 1 second for each remote to be programmed.
  11. The indicators will flash or doors will lock/unlock to confirm programming for each remote.
  12. Open the door or turn ignition ON to end registration mode.

LandCruiser VDJ7# (70 Series)

2016–2023 🔐 Remote Programming (Same as 2009–2016)

The procedure for 2016–2023 is the same as the 2009–2016 method above.
Follow Steps 1–12 exactly.

LandCruiser VDJL7 / GDJL7 (70 Series)

2023+ 🧠 Manual vs Diagnostic Remote Programming

⚠️ If the vehicle is fitted with Automatic High Beams, remote programming is performed via diagnostics.

✅ If the vehicle is NOT fitted with automatic high beams, remote programming can be performed manually using the procedure below:

⚠️ Common Reasons LandCruiser Remote Programming Fails

  • Incorrect remote frequency or part number
  • Low vehicle battery voltage
  • Aftermarket alarm/immobiliser interference
  • Faulty door/ignition switches (vehicle can’t detect the sequence)
  • Some late models require diagnostic programming only

If the vehicle won’t enter programming mode or doesn’t confirm with flashes/lock cycles, diagnostics are recommended.
