Toyota Yaris Remote Key Programming Guide (2005–2011)
🔑 Manual Remote Programming Procedure
This step-by-step guide explains how to manually program remote locking functions for Toyota Yaris models from 2005 to 2011.
⚠️ Important
This procedure programs remote lock/unlock only.
It does NOT program the immobiliser transponder chip.
If your Toyota Yaris will not start with a new key, or won’t enter programming mode, diagnostic programming will be required.
Before You Start (Read This First)
Manual remote programming on Toyota Yaris models is very timing-sensitive.
If you:
- don’t get any lock cycling
- repeat the steps multiple times with no response
- or the remote is never accepted
stop before continuing.
⚠️ If your Toyota Yaris won’t enter programming mode
The vehicle may not support manual pairing, the remote may be incompatible, or a required switch condition isn’t being detected. In these cases, diagnostic key or immobiliser programming may be required.

🔐 Remote Programming Procedure (Manual Method)
This procedure is used to program remote locking functions.
- Make sure the driver’s door is open and unlocked and the key is out of the ignition.
- Insert and remove the key from the ignition TWICE within 5 seconds.
- Close and open the driver’s door TWICE within 40 seconds.
- Insert the key into the ignition and remove it ONCE.
- Close and open the driver’s door TWICE within 40 seconds.
- Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn it on).
- Close the driver’s door.
- Turn the ignition switch from OFF → ON:
- 1 time = ➕ ADD (add a new remote without erasing existing)
- 2 times = 🔄 REWRITE (erase all remotes and add new ones)
- 3 times = 🔍 CONFIRMATION (check how many remotes are programmed)
- Remove the key from the ignition.
🔒 The door locks will now cycle LOCK → UNLOCK a number of times corresponding to the selected mode.
Programming the Remote
For ADD or REWRITE modes, within 20 seconds of door lock confirmation:
A. Press LOCK and UNLOCK together for 1–1.5 seconds, then release
B. Within 3 seconds, press the LOCK button for more than 1 second, then release
C. ✅ Success: locks cycle once
❌ Failure: locks cycle twice (repeat the procedure from the beginning)
D. Repeat for any additional remotes
- Open the driver’s door to complete the procedure.
⚠️ Common Reasons Yaris Remote Programming Fails
Even when the steps are followed correctly, manual programming may fail due to:
- Incorrect remote frequency or part number
- Low vehicle battery voltage
- Weak remote battery
- Aftermarket alarm or immobiliser interference
- Faulty door or ignition switches
If the vehicle never enters programming mode, diagnostic equipment will be required.
Can a Locksmith Program This if the DIY Steps Fail?
Yes.
If your Toyota Yaris won’t enter programming mode, keeps rejecting the remote, or you need immobiliser key programming, a mobile automotive locksmith can often help using diagnostic equipment (model dependent).
